Yesterday, sixth-ranked UMD men\u2019s hockey was shutout for the second time all season. With the possibility of a sweep on the table, the Bulldogs bested St. Cloud State 5-3 on the road.<\/p>\n
UMD came out of the gates firing when, on the opening possession, Max Plante got ahead of the defense and whipped it into the top left corner. There wasn\u2019t another goal until six minutes into the second period where Gavyn Thoreson tied things up for the Huskies. <\/p>\n
Shortly after, Callum Arnott ripped one between the goaltender\u2019s legs to put the Dogs back in front. However, it was short lived because St. Cloud rattled off two tallies of its own to take the lead. <\/p>\n
Then, early in the third, Arnott went behind the back to Zam Plante who evened the score with a power play finish. Later in the period, the forward notched his second multi-goal performance of the year with an easy shot right on the doorstep to make it 4-3. <\/p>\n
Jayson Shaugabay added one more for insurance on an empty netter with 30 seconds left to give UMD its second straight Saturday victory. The Bulldogs took three of four in the season series and moved to 17-7. <\/p>\n
Scott Sandelin\u2019s squad returns home to rematch third-ranked Western Michigan at 7:07 p.m. on Friday. <\/p>\n
