The Calgary Flames<\/a> sent veteran defenceman Rasmus Andersson<\/a> to the Vegas Golden Knights<\/a> on Sunday night. <\/p>\n

In return, the Flames acquired defenceman Zach Whitecloud<\/a>, a top-10 protected first-round draft pick in 2027, a 2028 conditional second-round pick, and prospect Abram Wiebe.<\/p>\n

The 2028 second-round pick will turn into a first-rounder if Vegas wins the Stanley Cup this season, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger. <\/p>\n

Dreger also notes that the deal does not come with an extension for Andersson, who is set for unrestricted free agency at season\u2019s end.<\/p>\n

Calgary will retain 50 per cent of Andersson\u2019s $4.55 million salary, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.<\/p>\n

Andersson, 29, has 10 goals and 30 points in 48 games with the Flames this season while averaging 24:14 of ice time. <\/p>\n

The 6-foot-1, right-shot defenceman is in the final season of a six-year, $27.3 million contract.<\/p>\n

Drafted 53rd overall by the Flames in 2015, Andersson has 57 goals and 261 points in 584 career games. <\/p>\n

The Malmo, Sweden native will represent his country at the Milano Cortina Olympics in February. He previously played internationally at the 4 Nations Face-Off last season, and also served as Sweden\u2019s captain at the 2025 World Hockey Championship, taking home a bronze medal. <\/p>\n

Whitecloud, 29, has appeared in 48 games for the Golden Knights this season, recording two goals and seven points while averaging 18:46 minutes of ice time.<\/p>\n

A Stanley Cup champion with Vegas back in 2023, the Brandon, Man. native has played in 368 career games, totaling 23 goals and 78 points across eight NHL seasons.<\/p>\n

Wiebe, a 22-year-old defenceman, was a seventh-round draft choice of the Flames in 2022.<\/p>\n

He is currently playing in his junior year at the University of North Dakota, and has three goals and 11 assists in 24 games played this season.<\/p>\n
