That is the largest in-arena crowd for a professional women\u2019s hockey game in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6846000\/2025\/11\/28\/seattle-torrent-womens-hockey-attendance-record-pwhl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previous record was 16,014<\/a> \u2014 established in Seattle\u2019s Climate Pledge Arena for a game between the Seattle Torrent and Minnesota Frost on Nov. 28, 2025.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">RECORD. BROKEN. \ud83d\udde3\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>With 17,228 fans in Capital One Arena, today\u2019s game in Washington D.C. sets the U.S. record for the highest-attended in-arena game in U.S. women\u2019s hockey history! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HGEVhYPv0P\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/HGEVhYPv0P<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 PWHL (@thepwhlofficial) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thepwhlofficial\/status\/2012997523292508303?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 18, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Monumental Sports &amp; Entertainment (MSE) founder Ted Leonsis said in a statement he was \u201cincredibly proud\u201d of the strong show of support for the PWHL at Capital One Arena.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s on the ice or the court, these record-setting crowds are the result of deliberate investment, long-term partnership and a belief that women\u2019s sports deserve to be celebrated at the highest level,\u201d Leonsis said.<\/p>\n<p>MSE owns three professional franchises in Washington: the NHL\u2019s Capitals, the NBA\u2019s Wizards and the WNBA\u2019s Mystics.<\/p>\n<p>A WNBA game between the Mystics and Indiana Fever drew 20,711 fans \u2014 a league record for single-game attendance \u2014 in September 2024.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What a huge response for women&#8217;s hockey in DC.
