Monday<\/p>\n

ICYMI: The Montreal Canadiens are interested in trading for Martin Necas, but Kent Hughes is far from the only interested general manager throughout the league. No team is yet to convince the Carolina Hurricanes that dealing Necas is the right decision, however, a surplus in Montreal could lead to the framework of a potential deal. FC Hockey has put together an interesting 2024 mock draft tool which lets you pick for any organization, while the remainder of the picks are automated.\u00a0 [FC Hockey<\/a>]
\nThe Habs signed prospect Oliver Kapanen to a three-year, entry-level contract. Kapanen had a slow start to his season, but finished on a strong note, including seven goals and seven assists in 13 playoff games. If Kapanen fails to earn an NHL roster spot at camp, the expectation is that he\u2019ll be loaned to Timra IK in the SHL rather than heading to the AHL to play with the Laval Rocket. For the record, his father, Kimmo, is Timra\u2019s general manager.<\/p>\n

The Canadiens have agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract (2024-25 to 2026-27) with forward Oliver Kapanen.<\/p>\n

Tuesday<\/p>\n

The Canadiens haven\u2019t released their pre-season schedule yet, but we do know of at least two games thanks to other NHL teams.<\/p>\n

Some #NHL<\/a> teams have begun announcing their 2024 preseason game schedules \u2013 so far the two #Habs<\/a> home dates I\u2019ve seen are Monday, September 23rd (vs. PHI) and Tuesday, September 24th (vs. NJ)<\/p>\n

\nThe NHL Trade Market is officially open, with several trades happening on Wednesday. Former Canadiens trade target Pierre-Luc Dubois was moved to the Washington Capitals in exchange for 34-year-old goaltender Darcy Kuemper. Despite paying a them ransom to acquire Dubois in the first place, the Kings quickly pulled the plug on the experiment just one year into his eight-year contract, which carries a ridiculous $8.5 million annual average value. He\u2019s just 25-years-old, which means he has time to rebound, but the decision to avoid further trade negotiations with the Winnipeg Jets last summer was a wise decision by Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes. We had a chance to sit down with top Montreal Canadiens prospect Owen Beck to discuss a bevy of topics, including how he will approach the upcoming training camp, his trust in the organization, learning with the young group of core players, the Memorial Cup, and much more. \nMark Masters spoke to top 2024 prospect Cayden Lindstrom about the possibility of being drafted by the Habs at fifth overall. This isn\u2019t technically Canadiens news, but it\u2019s worth noting nonetheless. Apparently, some teams are floating the idea of potentially signing Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas to an offer sheet because they believe the price set by Carolina is unreasonable. For the record, the Canadiens do have the assets available to put together an offer sheet, but that\u2019s just about where the speculation ends, as it seems unlikely Kent Hughes and Co. will go down that road. Offer sheets are pretty rare but one thing I\u2019ve heard a bit this week on the Martin Necas front is a few teams wondering if that\u2019s a plausible avenue if the asking price in trade talks with Carolina remains too high. Probably a long shot play, but something to file away<\/p>\n

In a surprising move, Laval Rocket head coach Jean-Francois Houle parted way with the organization to become the head coach at his Alma mater, Clarkson.
