(Paula Porter\/For the Gazette)<\/p>\n<p>CALUMET \u2014 Co-captain Nathan Londo scored back-to-back hat tricks to help lead the Calumet Copper Kings hockey team to a pair of wins this past weekend over the University of Detroit Jesuit Cubs at the Calumet Colosseum. Calumet won the opener, 6-4, before rolling to an 8-2 win Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>With the wins, the Copper Kings have won six in a row and seven of their last eight to improve to 13-4-1 on the season<\/p>\n<p>Copper Kings 6, Cubs 4<\/p>\n<p>The Copper Kings scored five goals in the first two periods and held the Cubs in check in the third period to earn a 6-4 win.<\/p>\n<p>Londo scored back-to-back goals in the second period at 4:09 and again at 6:51 to put Calumet  up 4-2 at the time. His first goal was assisted by co-captain Erik Loukus and senior defenseman Drake Niemela. Londo\u2019s second goal was assisted by senior defenseman Robert Loukus.<\/p>\n<p>Londo\u2019s hat trick goal was deposited into the empty net with just seven seconds left in the contest. His 19th goal of the season was assisted by Erik Loukus.<\/p>\n<p>Calumet got on the board first in the game when junior forward Josh Asiala scored his second goal of the season at 4:20. Senior forward Rogan Gronlund and junior forward Kaden Cronenworth both earned assists on the goal.<\/p>\n<p>Junior forward Luke Hamlin made it 2-0 Copper Kings just 1:32 later when he scored his seventh of the season. Robert Loukus and alternate captain Ben Anderson both picked up assists on the goal.<\/p>\n<p>The Cubs scored the game\u2019s next two goals, first by Teo Mosera at 6:58 of the opening frame and by Zach Barringer just 3:05 into the second period on the power play.<\/p>\n<p>After Londo\u2019s back-to-back tallies, Hamlin scored his second of the night, and the goal that stood as the game-winner, at 8:11. Junior defenseman Jax Carlson and Robert Loukus assisted on the goal.<\/p>\n<p>Mosera closed the second period with his second of the game at 10:20 to make it 5-3 Calumet.<\/p>\n<p>Will Balasia cut the lead to 5-4 when he found the net at 13:28 of the third period.<\/p>\n<p>Junior goaltender Beau Jukuri made 14 saves to earn the win.<\/p>\n<p>Copper Kings 8, Cubs 2<\/p>\n<p>The Copper Kings scored three in the first, one in the second and then four times in the third period to earn an 8-2 win over the Cubs Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Londo scored a natural hat trick in the third period as part of the four-goal outburst by Calumet.<\/p>\n<p>His first came at 6:53 and was unassisted. He struck again at 10:38, this time set up by Erik Loukus and junior forward Brady Boberg. Finally, he scored again at 13:28 for his 22nd of the season. The goal was assisted by Boberg and Erik Loukus.<\/p>\n<p>Erik Loukus capped the game\u2019s scoring when he struck with 1:19 left. Londo and Boberg were both credited with assists on the goal, Loukus\u2019 seventh of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Cronenworth got Calumet on the board in the first period by scoring just 1:52 into the game. His second goal of the season was assisted by senior forward Nathan Keranen.<\/p>\n<p>Boberg scored his eighth of the year at 5:58 to put Calumet up 2-0 at that point. Erik Loukus and Carlson both earned assists.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson scored shorthanded at 10:34 to put the Copper Kings up 3-0. Londo picked up the lone assist on the play.<\/p>\n<p>Mosera made it 3-1 just 3:32 into the second, but Boberg struck again at 12:19 to put the Copper Kings up 4-1 going into the final frame.
