Vancouver Canucks<\/a> general manager Patrik Allvin gave head coach Adam Foote<\/a> a vote confidence on Monday, with the team sitting last in the NHL and charting a clear course as sellers ahead of the March 6 trade deadline.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do trust the coaching staff and Adam Foote<\/a>,\u201d Allvin said.<\/p>\n

Foote, who is in his first season behind the bench, is currently stuck in an 11-game winless skid with the club. The Canucks suffered a 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders<\/a> on Monday, leaving Vancouver seven points back of the 31st-place Winnipeg Jets<\/a> at the bottom of the standings.<\/p>\n

Allvin met with the media after trading winger Kiefer Sherwood<\/a> to the San Jose Sharks<\/a> for a package that included two second-round picks.<\/p>\n

Vancouver also traded captain Quinn Hughes<\/a> to the Minnesota Wild<\/a> last month and TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports all options are on the table for the franchise, with management now using the word \u201crebuild.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foote voiced his frustration after Monday\u2019s loss for what he chalked up as a \u201cculture\u201d problem of the team having a defeatist attitude when bounces fail to go their way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been watching this for too long,\u201d Foote said after the latest loss. \u201cWe\u2019ve got to stop burning ourselves by getting frustrated. We\u2019ve got to stay within the plan. The plan\u2019s working. And it\u2019s our vets. They\u2019ve got to hang in there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something we\u2019ve got to get out of our culture,\u201d he added. \u201cIt just gets us off our game … and allows other teams to get just a little bit of energy and come back in the game. It\u2019s something we\u2019ve got to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foote was promoted to the role of head coach in the off-season after serving as an assistant under former head coach Rick Tocchet<\/a> for the previous three seasons. The 54-year-old has seen the team go 16-28-5 this season, on track to miss the playoffs for the fifth time in the past six years and ninth in the past 11.<\/p>\n

Allvin said injuries have played a role in the team\u2019s struggles this season, but also cautioned he didn\u2019t want to use them as an excuse.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are pockets and stretches where we\u2019re playing really well,\u201d Allvin said. \u201cThere was a stretch of seven weeks in late November to early January when our penalty kill was really good, but that was based on you have your goalie and you\u2019re fairly healthy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat being said, I don\u2019t want to use excuses. Our job is to win hockey games and we need to get better, all of us. And I know the coaches are working on the solutions and working with the players to perform better, and we need to.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Canucks will host the Washington Capitals<\/a> on Wednesday as an eight-game homestand continues.
