Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson<\/a> suffered a lower-body injury against the Detroit Red Wings<\/a> on Wednesday, the team announced.<\/p>\n

After the game, the Leafs did not have an update on his status.<\/p>\n

Ekman-Larsson went to the dressing room midway through the first period and did not return to the game, he was eventually ruled out for the rest of the contest.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old took five shifts, played 1:50 of the opening period and did not record a point before leaving the game.<\/p>\n

He has appeared in 50 games this season for the Leafs and has eight goals and 23 assists with a plus-8 rating.<\/p>\n

Ekman-Larsson was named to Sweden\u2019s 25-man roster for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.<\/p>\n

Sweden is already dealing with injuries to Ekman-Larsson\u2019s Maple Leaf teammate William Nylander<\/a>, as well as Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> defenceman Victor Hedman<\/a>, Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>\u2019 Erik Karlsson<\/a>, Colorado Avalanche<\/a> captain Gabriel Landeskog<\/a> and Minnesota Wild<\/a> centre Joel Eriksson Ek<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sweden\u2019s national team head coach Sam Hallam announced on Tuesday that two members of the squad, Minnesota Wild<\/a> defenceman Jonas Brodin<\/a> and Anaheim Ducks<\/a> forward Leo Carlsson<\/a> are unlikely to play at The Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n
