Bobby Orr is the gold standard for NHL defenseman in a lot of ways. It’s hard to equal anything the legendary Orr did on the ice.<\/p>\n

On Saturday night, Edmonton Oilers<\/a> blue liner Evan Bouchard found a way to match Orr.<\/p>\n

Bouchard had the game of his life in a 6-5 overtime win over the Washington Capitals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The defenseman finished with three goals and three assists while firing eight shots on goal.<\/p>\n

Prior to Saturday, Orr had been the only defenseman in NHL history to have a game with six points that also included eight shots on goal, according to Sportsnet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bouchard has now joined him in what used to be a one-person club.<\/p>\n

The 26-year old Bouchard has been known as one of the top attacking defensemen in the NHL for a while, but this was a whole new level of excellence.<\/p>\n

The Oilers didn’t score without Bouchard being involved in the moment. His goals made the game 1-0, 2-1, and 3-3.<\/p>\n

He assisted on Zach Hyman’s goal with 32 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and then on Connor McDavid’s goal to win it in overtime.<\/p>\n

It’d be tough to have a better night at the office than Bouchard, who was only on the ice for one of the Capitals’ five goals.<\/p>\n

Any time you can join Orr in NHL history, you know it’s been a special night.<\/p>\n
