ST. LOUIS \u2014 Trevor Moore delivered a milestone performance and the decisive finish as the Los Angeles Kings edged the St. Louis Blues 5\u20134 in a shootout Friday night at Enterprise Center.<\/p>\n
Moore scored twice, netting his 100th career NHL goal during regulation before finishing the game with the shootout winner, lifting the Kings to their fourth shootout victory of the season. Los Angeles opened a six-game road trip with the win and improved to 21-16-13, remaining in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race.<\/p>\n
The Kings struck first with a strong opening period, taking a 1\u20130 lead before St. Louis responded with a three-goal second period that briefly swung momentum in favor of the Blues. Los Angeles answered with resilience, scoring twice in the middle frame to pull even and setting the stage for a back-and-forth finish.<\/p>\n
Alex Laferriere played a key role in the comeback, recording a goal and an assist for his second multi-point game of the season. Laferriere first picked up an assist earlier in the game before tying the contest late in regulation with his 13th goal of the year, a timely strike that silenced the St. Louis crowd and forced overtime.<\/p>\n
Defenseman Brian Dumoulin added offense from the blue line, scoring his first goal as a member of the Kings. Taylor Ward also found the net, scoring for the second consecutive game as the Kings received scoring contributions throughout the lineup.<\/p>\n
St. Louis answered again in the third period, pulling ahead 4\u20133 and threatening to close out the game in regulation. Los Angeles, however, continued to press and eventually forced overtime, controlling much of the play late and refusing to let the game slip away.<\/p>\n
Neither team scored during the overtime session, sending the contest to a shootout where Moore delivered the decisive moment. After converting in regulation earlier in the night, the Thousand Oaks native sealed the win with the lone goal of the shootout, becoming one of only a handful of California-born players to reach the 100-goal mark in NHL history.<\/p>\n
Goaltender Darcy Kuemper anchored the Kings defensively, making 25 saves through regulation and overtime and stopping two of three shootout attempts. Kuemper\u2019s calm presence proved critical as the Kings weathered multiple surges from the Blues, particularly during the second period when St. Louis briefly seized control.<\/p>\n
Los Angeles finished with 28 shots on goal and won the faceoff battle, while the Kings\u2019 penalty kill held firm when needed. Adrian Kempe recorded an assist to extend his point streak to three games and continues to lead the team in assists. Defenseman Brandt Clarke added another helper, further cementing his role as the Kings\u2019 most productive blueliner this season.<\/p>\n
For St. Louis, the loss dropped the Blues to 20-23-9 as they continued to search for consistency in the Central Division. Despite strong stretches of play and a productive second period, the Blues were unable to convert when it mattered most in the shootout.<\/p>\n
The Kings will not practice Saturday and will continue their road trip Monday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets before heading to Detroit, Buffalo, Philadelphia and Carolina.
