He voiced his displeasure with the COVID situation around the NHL.

“I’m not really comfortable playing against people that might have COVID,” Drouin said. “When you have seven guys on the team (with COVID) you can have two or three others that get it tomorrow, I don’t know… I don’t feel comfortable to play with that. That’s not what we were told this year with the vaccines. Of course things change over time but it’s not really ideal.”

Like Drouin said, the Bruins have seven players in COVID protocol including Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and Jeremy Swayman. Boston were forced to play with only 11 forwards in last night’s loss to the Islanders due to the virus and salary cap constraints per our colleagues at Boston Hockey Now.

Drouin went on to say that the Montreal Canadiens are relatively used to playing in front of no fans due to their experiences in the bubble and in the NHL’s North division last year. But the Habs forward couldn’t hide his disappointment that the team has been forced once again to play in an empty Bell Centre.

“Today is obviously a little bit of a wake-up call,” said Drouin to reporters in French last night. “We weren’t expecting to play in front of no fans this season with the vaccines. In fact w were told the opposite. But to see that tonight, it’s tough. There was no ambience, no energy. Then again the health of the public is more important than watching a hockey game.”

The league has postponed two games set for tomorrow night between the Avalanche and Lightning and the Wild and Panthers per Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli. Seravalli is also reporting that the league has shut down Colorado, Florida and Calgary until Dec. 27th.

More to come on Montreal Hockey Now over the coming days.

Marc has been covering the Habs for over a decade.
