The New York Rangers<\/a> are close to a deal to send defenceman Carson Soucy<\/a> to the New York Islanders<\/a>, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reports. <\/p>\n

Mercogliano adds that Soucy is expected to be held out of Monday\u2019s game against the Boston Bruins<\/a> for asset protection.<\/p>\n

Soucy, 31, has three goals and eight points in 46\u00a0games with the Rangers this season.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-4, left-shot defenceman is on the final season of a three-year, $9.75 million contract that carries a cap hit of $3.25 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

No official announcement yet as they work out the particulars, but expect him to be held out of the lineup tonight for roster management.<\/p>\n

Trading Soucy would mark Rangers general manager Chris Drury<\/a>\u2019s first move since announcing earlier this month the team would be entering a \u201cretool.\u201d The Rangers currently sit last in the Eastern Conference, on track to miss the playoffs for the second straight year after winning the Presidents\u2019 Trophy in 2024.<\/p>\n

The Islanders currently sit third in the Metropolitan Division as the team fights to return to the playoffs for the third time in four years after missing the postseason last year. <\/p>\n

Drafted 137th overall by the Minnesota Wild<\/a> in 2013, Soucy has 30 goals and 95 points in 411 career games split between the Wild, Seattle Kraken<\/a>, Vancouver Canucks<\/a> and Rangers.<\/p>\n

His best offensive season came during the 2021-22 campaign where he recorded 10 goals and 21 points in 64 games as a member of the Kraken while averaging 17:40 of ice time.<\/p>\n
