The team went 0-3-1, picking up only one point. Their record dropped to 19-24-9 on the season. Despite the rough week, there were some standouts worth noting. Without further ado, here are the Blues’ standout players of the past week.

Standout #3- The Power Play

The week started with a personnel change on the power play. Steve Ott, the usual power-play coach, was reassigned to the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Springfield Thunderbirds to be their head coach. Blues’ head coach Jim Montgomery took over the power-play duties for the NHL club.

St. Louis Blues Standouts of the Week

Under Montgomery, the power play did succeed last week. The Blues scored a power-play goal in each game. While they were unable to score the big goal to help them win, it was nice to see the power play have a little more success on a consistent basis. To see this trend continue would certainly be a step in the right direction for a struggling team.

Standout #2- Dalibor Dvorsky

Dalibor Dvorsky continues to have a strong rookie season. Last week, the 20-year-old recorded three points in four games, including two goals. One of those goals came on the aforementioned power play on Friday against the Dallas Stars. The goal extended his team lead in power-play goals to five.

If the Blues were better, he might be in the Calder Trophy talks. He helps the team’s future look bright. Achieving this success in his first season signals good things ahead.

Standout #1- Jordan Kyrou

Jordan Kyrou is far off his usual 30+ goal pace. He had not looked like himself until last week.

When Kyrou gets on a hot streak, he is truly one of the best players in the league. His defense will never put him anywhere close to the Selke Trophy, but his offense more than makes up for it. Last week, he scored three goals. In Saturday’s loss, the All-Star scored twice, including a game-tying goal late in the third period with the goaltender pulled. Seeing him score such a clutch goal is a nice reminder of what he can do when he is on his game.

Kyrou’s week reminded the Blues what he can do for them. At the same time, it is also a reminder of the return they could get if they chose to trade him. Is he an untouchable at this point? It is hard to say. General manager Doug Armstrong will almost certainly listen to offers, as any responsible GM would do. Regardless, Kyrou continuing to produce only means good things for the Blues.

Losing, Yet Winning?

As the season has progressed, many Blues fans believe it might benefit the team’s long-term future to finish lower in the standings and secure high draft picks. Discussions about Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg have begun circulating in St. Louis. For either player to be a possibility, the Blues need to finish near the bottom of the standings.

Related: 3 Untouchable Blues at the 2026 Trade Deadline

But what else do the Blues need? Production from the current roster. Last week, they got that: the power-play clicked, Dvorsky kept scoring, and Kyrou possibly improved his trade stock. For those in the McKenna/Stenberg camp, last week was fun. Players are producing, but the team is losing.

Of course, no Blues fan wants this to be the reality, especially after last season. Still, every fan hopes for the best possible future for the organization. The front office will decide what that future involves. It is certainly an interesting time in St. Louis.

The Week Ahead

The Blues will play three games, all at home. The most notable matchup is Thursday, when Matthew Tkachuk and the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers come to town.

Tune in next week for more standout performers and Blues content!

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1200" height="122" src="https://www.rawchili.com/nhl/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Blues_Banner-1200x122.jpg" alt="SUBSCRIBE FOR FREE TO OUR ST.
