After four games on the road, the New Jersey Devils<\/a> are back at the Prudential Center to host the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, Jan. 27. The two teams played their first game of the season series earlier this month on Jan. 11, where the Jets won 4-3. The Devils are just coming off a West Coast road trip, where they won three of their last four games, but lost their last game of the trip against the Seattle Kraken on Sunday, Jan. 25. Since they had a strong start to the road trip, they\u2019ll look to get their next win on home ice. Here are your three keys to a Devils win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Keep the Power Play Strong\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both of the Devils\u2019 goals scored in Seattle were on the extra-man advantage. They capitalized on two of their three true power-play opportunities in this game and managed to kill off their two four-on-four chances.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Devils currently have the 12th-best power play<\/a>\u00a0in the league with a 22.3% success rate. In good news for them, the Jets are currently in 18th place. Of course, anything can happen in any game, but the fact that they have a worse success rate on the power play is a good sign for the Devils. Let\u2019s hope that if they draw any penalties, they manage to succeed in scoring on the extra-man advantage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for the Devils, the Jets have a better\u00a0success rate on the penalty kill<\/a>\u00a0than they do. Winnipeg is in 17th place with a 79.5% success rate, while the Devils are in 19th place with a 78.9% success rate. Again, anything can happen in any game, but the Devils will need to carry on with their penalty kill strength as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hold On to the Lead\u00a0<\/p>\n

The last time the Devils faced off against the Jets, although Winnipeg struck first, New Jersey managed to take the lead early in the second period, thanks to Cody Glass<\/a>. The Jets evened the score shortly after, but six minutes after that, Glass scored again to give the Devils back their lead. Late in the second, the Jets scored to tie it, and it was Tanner Pearson who netted the only goal in the third period to give the Jets the win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If the Devils take the lead and can hold on to it, they\u2019ll obviously have a better chance of winning. New Jersey can\u2019t get comfortable when they get the lead; they need to keep the foot on the gas and keep driving pucks towards the net. If they can do that, they\u2019ll be in a strong position to take a win in the season series.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also, give the puck to Glass, since he scored two of the three goals against the Jets in that game. We\u2019ll see if he can score again, or maybe even get the hat trick he should\u2019ve gotten back in Winnipeg.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Capitalize on Scoring Chances\u00a0<\/p>\n

While the Devils need to keep the power play strong, they also need to capitalize on the five-on-five scoring chances they get, too. Against Winnipeg on Jan. 11, they outshot the Jets 27-22. Against the Kraken on Sunday, they outshot Seattle 29-19. The number of shots clearly does not always reflect the winning team, though, as the Devils were outshot 23-19 against the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 20 and New Jersey left this game with a 2-1 win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s great when the Devils can get a high number of shots on net, but it only really matters when the quality outweighs the quantity. The Jets might be in 30th place in the league, but that doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019ve given up on the season; they\u2019re still going to try to get wins. The Devils will need to make sure their shots on net result in goals.<\/p>\n
