Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> forward Brayden Point<\/a> is progressing well from his lower-body injury and is still in play to represent Canada at The Winter Olympics, TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston reports.<\/p>\n

Johnston reports that Team Canada is not currently looking at making an injury replacement for the tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it didn\u2019t look too good when he went down with that injury in Philadelphia earlier in the month,\u201d said Johnston Tuesday on Insider Trading. \u201cWhat I can tell you since then is that the news has gotten at least a little bit more encouraging. At this point in time, it is fully Point<\/a>\u2019s intention to get himself back healthy and get himself ready to play for Team Canada in Milan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s only a week and a half until the players fly over there, so he\u2019s\u00a0going to\u00a0have to continue to make progress [and] perhaps even get into a game for the Lightning. But at this point in time, we\u2019re not talking about an injury replacement. We\u2019re talking about Point getting healthy enough in time to play for Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n

Point, 29, sustained the injury during the Lightning\u2019s 5-1 win over the\u00a0Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>\u00a0on Jan. 12 when he got tangled up with Flyers defenceman\u00a0Cam York<\/a>\u00a0in front of the Flyers\u2019 net after scoring.<\/p>\n

The 5-foot-11 centre immediately grabbed his right leg in pain and needed help getting off the ice while being unable to put weight on the injured leg.<\/p>\n

Point has 11 goals and 30 points in 37 games this season and was on a hot streak before the injury, putting up eight goals and 19 points since the beginning of December.<\/p>\n

The Calgary native was announced as one of Canada\u2019s first six roster players in June.<\/p>\n

Point\u2019s injury highlighted a handful of injury concerns for Team Canada as the Winter Olympics rapidly approach,\u00a0with\u00a0Washington Capitals<\/a>\u00a0forward\u00a0Tom Wilson<\/a>,\u00a0New York Islanders<\/a>\u00a0centre\u00a0Bo Horvat<\/a>, and\u00a0Florida Panthers<\/a>\u00a0winger\u00a0Brad Marchand<\/a>\u00a0recently returning from injuries.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s hockey portion of the Winter Olympics is set to begin on Feb. 11 with Canada kicking off their round-robin portion of the tournament against Czechia the following day.<\/p>\n
