The forward’s role with the team has gotten more and more sparse as the season has gone along, as his ice time has cratered.

But somewhat surprisingly, a trade has yet to materialize.

Mangiapane has a full no-trade clause in the two-year, $7.2 million deal he signed with the Oilers this past summer ($3.6M AAV). But he’s not about to let that hold him back from going somewhere where the grass is greener for him, from an ice-time perspective.

The 29-year-old winger has just six goals and 12 points through 47 games this season, while averaging just 12:54 of ice time per night.

Insider Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic gives us the latest, including three teams that should be considered primary suitors at this point.

It’s not for a lack of trying. My understanding is that the Oilers are having ongoing conversations with teams open-minded about a return. But there hasn’t been a fit so far. But Oilers GM Stan Bowman continues to have dialogue with teams because he wants to find Mangiapane a better opportunity.

My sense is that Bowman’s communication with the player’s agent, Allain Roy, has been as positive and constructive as it can be, given the difficult circumstances.

I wonder about teams such as the Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators or St. Louis Blues as fits.

The fact that he has another year to run on his contract should actually be a benefit for those three teams, says LeBrun, none of whom will be going to the playoffs.

Mangiapane began the year averaging about 16 minutes of ice time through October, but that dropped to just 13:27 in November, 11:17 in December, and in January, he’s at just 10:14 TOI per game.

In nine NHL seasons, Mangiapane has 129 goals and 255 points in 545 games. He’s averaged 14:35 of game time per night.

Photo: © Perry Nelson-Imagn Images

It was exactly a month ago when we learned that both the Edmonton Oilers and Andrew Mangiapane were…

[5125
198,146,5300,5,181,4,465,550,106,60,107,549,548,546,547,24
0":"post-432776","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-edmonton-oilers","8":"tag-edmonton","9":"tag-edmonton-oilers","10":"tag-edmontonoilers","11":"tag-hockey","12":"tag-hockey-news","13":"tag-nhl","14":"tag-nhl-draft","15":"tag-nhl-free-agency","16":"tag-nhl-news","17":"tag-nhl-playoffs","18":"tag-nhl-rumors","19":"tag-nhl-teams","20":"tag-nhl-trade-deadline","21":"tag-nhl-trade-rumors","22":"tag-nhl-trades","23":"tag-oilers
["GET
