Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jack St. Ivany will be out up eight weeks after he had surgery on his left hand, the team announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n
St. Ivany, 26, who at times has formed an effective third pairing with Ryan Shea, has seven assists, a career high, in 17 games at the NHL level this season. He has also played in five AHL games with Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton. He left Sunday\u2019s 3-2 win<\/a> at Vancouver in the first period.<\/p>\n Dr. John Fowler, in conjunction with team physician Dharmesh Vyas, performed the operation at UPMC Mercy Hospital.<\/p>\n St. Ivany missed the first two months of the season because of a suspected foot injury.<\/p>\n Newly acquired defenseman Ilya Solovyov<\/a> skated alongside Shea at practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. He could make his Penguins debut Thursday when the Chicago Blackhawks visit PPG Paints Arena.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, second-line forward Evgeni Malkin practiced with the team Tuesday. He went down in a heap on the bench at the end of Sunday\u2019s win, apparently after a celebratory bump from a teammate. However, coach Dan Muse told reporters after the game that Malkin appeared to be OK.
