The Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> continue to stumble.<\/p>\n

At this point, they’re looking like they’ll be trade deadline sellers. But will that selling include Auston Matthews?<\/p>\n

That’s the question everyone is asking about the star center who has committed himself long-term to Toronto.<\/p>\n

When Matthews was recently asked about this, he said that he leaves the decision-making on this front up to management and just worries about what is happening on the ice.<\/p>\n

Now, hockey fans have further insight.<\/p>\n

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, on his 32 Thoughts podcast<\/a>, shared the latest Matthews news. It sounds like he isn’t going anywhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe made a long-term commitment to Toronto a few years ago, and even with a tough season, he isn\u2019t interested in breaking that commitment,” Friedman said. “I don\u2019t think Auston is going anywhere. I don\u2019t think he has a desire to go anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both aspects to those last two sentences are important.<\/p>\n

It seems that Friedman, number one, is recognizing that he isn’t hearing any buzz from his sources about the potential of a Matthews trade.<\/p>\n

It also sounds like he’s heard that Matthews is fine with being in Toronto and seeing this through.<\/p>\n

The Maple Leafs will surely feel better about a future that includes Matthews, and right now, that sounds like it’s the future they will get.<\/p>\n
