Last, but not least, Zayne Parekh has returned to the Flames after an American Hockey League (AHL) conditioning loan.

Weegar Latest Flame to Garner Trade Speculation

There have been several veterans on the Flames who have been talked about as trade bait this season, but few, if any, discussed MacKenzie Weegar. The 32-year-old is under contract through the 2030-31 campaign, which suggested he would remain in Calgary for some time. That, however, may not be the case.

Related: Flames Should Avoid Trading for Kraken’s Shane Wright

Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reported that the Ottawa Senators have expressed interest in Weegar, who combined for 99 points over the past two seasons. The Senators are hoping to add a top-four defenceman to their lineup, and Weegar certainly fits the bill. Though he’s struggled this season, he’s shown that he has the ability to be one of the better defencemen in the NHL. Should the Flames move him, they would net a significant return.

Kadri Open to Being Traded

A new development regarding Nazem Kadri’s future surfaced earlier in the week. The 35-year-old has been mentioned in trade rumours plenty this season, though it remained unclear as to whether or not he was interested in being moved. Based on a new report, however, it sounds as though he would welcome a trade should one come to fruition.

“In the case of Kadri, multiple sources have confirmed that while he has not formally requested a trade, he and his camp have informed the Flames he is open to being moved,” David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period wrote on Wednesday.

Nazem Kadri, Calgary Flames (Sergei Belski-Imagn Images)

It’s been a disappointing season for Kadri, but playing for a bottoming team like the Flames hasn’t helped. After scoring 35 goals in 2024-25, he’s found the back of the net just nine times through 53 games this season. While moving him makes plenty of sense for the Flames, his $7 million cap hit could make things difficult.

Coleman Could Be Flames’ Most Realistic Trade Option

Whether the Flames do wind up making another trade remains to be seen. As already mentioned, it’s possible that we see several before the deadline. That said, the most likely of the players being discussed to have a new home between now and March 6 appears to be Blake Coleman.

Coleman, who is currently out of the lineup due to injury, has 13 goals through 44 games this season. His ability to play up and down the lineup, along with his Stanley Cup winning pedigree, makes him a very interesting option for several playoff-calibre teams across the league.

Related: Flames Roster Moves Will Allow Zayne Parekh to Shine

What makes Coleman far more likely to be traded than anybody else on this Flames roster is that he has just one additional season remaining on his contract. He carries a $4.9 million cap hit, but the Flames could elect to retain money on his deal. Should they do so, it would drastically improve offers and could wind up landing them a decent draft pick or prospect.

Parekh Returning to the Flames

After wrapping up his three-game stint with the Calgary Wranglers, the Flames announced that Zayne Parekh has been recalled. The 19-year-old wound up suiting up for three games with the Wranglers, scoring two goals and five points.

Zayne Parekh, Calgary Flames (Sergei Belski-Imagn Images)

Parekh, who seemingly enjoyed his opportunity to log big minutes for the Wranglers, will now return to the Flames hoping to see a bigger role. He’s appeared in just 11 NHL games thus far this season, but should be relied upon more down the stretch following the Rasmus Andersson trade.

Looking Ahead for the Flames

The Flames have just two games remaining on their schedule before the Olympic break, both of which will come on home ice. The first will come on Monday against Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs, while another Battle of Alberta is in store versus the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.

<a
