{"id":440376,"date":"2026-02-01T20:20:16","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T20:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/440376\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T20:20:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T20:20:16","slug":"calgary-flames-place-justin-kirkland-on-waivers-pro-hockey-rumors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/440376\/","title":{"rendered":"Calgary Flames Place Justin Kirkland On Waivers \u2013 Pro Hockey Rumors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Calgary Flames have placed forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kirklju01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-02-01_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Justin Kirkland<\/a> on waivers, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FriedgeHNIC\/status\/2018037427982446912\" rel=\"nofollow\">according to Sportsnet\u2019s Elliotte Friedman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is Kirkland\u2019s second waiver placement of the year, as he was also waived in November. Kirkland has been on the Flames\u2019 NHL roster since mid-December, serving largely as a spare forward option. He\u2019s played in 20 total NHL games this season, and served as a healthy scratch for eight games, including yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>In the 20 contests he was dressed for, Kirkland managed one goal and two points across 9:49 time on ice per game. He also managed to play a role on the Flames\u2019 penalty kill, averaging nearly two minutes per game of short-handed ice time.<\/p>\n<p>At the AHL level, Kirkland has been a steady top-six scoring option for the Flames\u2019 affiliates, both when they were based in Stockton and now Calgary. Kirkland, who joined the Flames organization in 2019-20, has five goals and seven points in 14 AHL contests this season and had 30 points in 43 AHL games last year.<\/p>\n<p>While there are some qualities that would suggest Kirkland is a candidate to be claimed \u2014 namely the fact that he can play center and has played on an NHL penalty kill with some regularity \u2014 it seems more likely he\u2019ll once again clear waivers. The fact that he\u2019s set to make $900K this year as an owner of a one-way contract contributes to the chances teams pass on claiming him.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s certainly not impossible he gets claimed, largely for those aforementioned reasons, it remains the most likely outcome that Kirkland will remain in the organization he\u2019s contributed to for the entirety of the 2020s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Calgary Flames have placed forward Justin Kirkland on waivers, according to Sportsnet\u2019s Elliotte Friedman.
