The Edmonton Oilers<\/a> announced on Sunday that they have placed veteran goaltender Calvin Pickard<\/a> on waivers.<\/p>\n

In 16 appearances this season, Pickard is 5-6-2 with an .871 save percentage and 3.68 goals-against average. <\/p>\n

He has not played since Jan. 8, when he made 13 saves in a 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Pickard played an important role in last year\u2019s playoffs for Edmonton. He took over as the starter in Game 3 of the first round against the Los Angeles Kings<\/a> with Stuart Skinner<\/a> struggling and backstopped them the rest of the series and through the first two games of the second round against Vegas. <\/p>\n

He got injured in Game 3 against the Golden Knights and was replaced by Skinner, who led them through the series and the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Pickard would return for the Stanley Cup Final, replacing Skinner in Games 3 and Game 4. The Oilers would go on to lose in six games to the Florida Panthers<\/a> for the second year in a row.<\/p>\n

He is in the second season of a two-year, $2 million contract. <\/p>\n

A second-round pick (49th overall) by Colorado in 2010, Pickard has appeared in 191 career NHL games, split between the Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>, Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>, Arizona Coyotes, Detroit Red Wings<\/a> and Oilers. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Edmonton Oilers announced on Sunday that they have placed veteran goaltender Calvin Pickard on waivers.
