Surely a player like Ekman-Larsson won’t give you that much back despite his performance right?

According to two analysts they believe that his throwback performance could end up bringing back quite the return for Toronto.

Chris Johnston and James Mirtle discussed the Maple Leafs trade candidates and tried to figure out their trade value when the topic of Ekman-Larsson came up with the two agreeing that OEL could be a a huge asset:

Reasonable cap hit ($3.5M) with two years left, but age (turns 35) limits value. Selling high may be smart, as his value is unlikely to increase.

Of course, no team is going to want to bring in a 35-year old, but Ekman-Larsson has been putting in a very strong season and looks like he’s ten years younger on the ice.

Why contenders want Oliver Ekman-Larsson

In 54 games he has 32 points (8 goals, 24 assists) while also anchoring the defense as best he can.

He also has 45 blocks and 68 hits, and he’s brought a certain meanness to the lineup.

He’s also a Cup winner and one of the best offensive defenseman of the last 15 years with his accomplishments speaking for himself.

Ekman-Larsson also made Team Sweden for the Olympics so right now he’s as hot as ever.

What could that heat bring though?

Well reports have said anything from a couple of picks and a prospect to as high as first-round pick but that’s still a huge consolation especially if they are rebuilding.

He doesn’t fit the timeline and should be moved for as much as possible.

His departure will also make room for other defenders like William Villeneuve to step in see if they can earn themselves a secure spot in the lineup, so it’s not a complete loss; the Maple Leafs need to see what they have in terms of a pipeline.

Previously on Hockey Patrol

POLL

23 HOURS AGO|577 ANSWERS

Brad Treliving may be able to fleece a team with this defenseman’s trade value

Should Toronto trade Oliver Ekman-Larsson if he brings in a first-round pick?

Photo credit: Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving may have an ace…

[5106
35564,30289,5,51114,20,5172,4,14978,782,66,31,5171
0":"post-441380","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-toronto-maple-leafs","8":"tag-brad-treliving-trades","9":"tag-chris-johnston-tsn","10":"tag-hockey","11":"tag-leafs-trade-rumours","12":"tag-maple-leafs","13":"tag-mapleleafs","14":"tag-nhl","15":"tag-nhl-trade-rumours","16":"tag-oliver-ekman-larsson","17":"tag-toronto","18":"tag-toronto-maple-leafs","19":"tag-torontomapleleafs
["GET
