Zachary Bolduc is having a season with ups and downs with the Montreal Canadiens, and last night\u2019s game carries significant meaning for him.<\/p>\n

Given that Bolduc has played 160 NHL games, he can no longer be sent to the Laval Rocket without first passing through waivers.<\/p>\n

“Worth noting with the imminent returns of Newhook and Laine: as of this morning, Bolduc must pass through waivers to be sent to Laval.<\/p>\n

Once a player has played 160 games (regular season + playoffs), which Bolduc did last night, he must go through waivers, even on an entry-level contract.”<\/p>\n

That therefore changes his future if management wanted to have him play games during the Olympic break.<\/p>\n

If Kent Hughes wants to send him back to the Laval Rocket, the young forward must now go through waivers.<\/p>\n

We know he would be claimed very quickly if the team made such a decision.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s fair to say that management probably had no intention of demoting him anyway, especially given his recent offensive production.<\/p>\n

Still, the timing is rather peculiar. Patrik Laine and Alex Newhook are set to come off injured reserve, and roster space will be needed in the locker room.<\/p>\n

Flexibility has just gone out the window. As much as Bolduc is producing, this new contractual reality forces the organization\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n

Since last night, it’s no longer an option for the Canadiens to send Zachary Bolduc to Laval when Patrik Laine and\/or Alex Newhook return to play.<\/p>\n

But I don’t think management was considering that option anyway.<\/p>\n

Bolduc may be producing a bit below expectations, but he’s the 2nd forward on the team to have recorded the most hits (just one behind Veleno) and the Habs already lack “grit”.”<\/p>\n

That said, it\u2019s a good problem to have when your young players are forcing management\u2019s hand. But let\u2019s be honest, it does make roster management more complex. With veterans returning, someone else will have to pay the price, and it won\u2019t be No. 12.<\/p>\n

The front office must now juggle an overflowing lineup. Could we see a trade to free up space? It\u2019s very possible.<\/p>\n

Bolduc has played some strong games over the past week. His physical engagement and toughness make him a forward who can change the course of a game.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s exactly the type of player the Canadiens need on their third or fourth line.<\/p>\n
