COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) \u2014 Zach Werenski<\/a> became the first defenseman to score 20 goals before an Olympic break, Jet Greaves<\/a> got his second shutout of the season and the Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> extended their winning streak to seven with a 4-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Ivan Provorov<\/a>, Danton Heinen<\/a> and Sean Monahan<\/a> also scored for Columbus, which has won 10 of 11 since Rick Bowness became coach on Jan. 12.<\/p>\n

Columbus was seven games out of a playoff spot when Bowness was hired to replace Dean Evason<\/a>. The Blue Jackets enter the Olympic break only two points behind the New York Islanders<\/a> for third place in the Metropolitan Division.<\/p>\n

Greaves stopped 21 shots for his fourth career shutout in 58 regular-season games. Charlie Coyle<\/a> added two assists.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the first time since 2020 that Columbus got shutouts in two straight games and the first time since 2019 that they\u2019ve done it on back-to-back nights. The Blue Jackets defeated New Jersey 3-0 on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also the first time the Blue Jackets had shutouts on back-to-back nights by different goalies. Elvis Merzlikins<\/a> made 24 saves against the Devils.<\/p>\n

Spencer Knight<\/a> made 16 saves for the Blackhawks, who have dropped five of six.<\/p>\n

Werenski extended his scoring streak to seven straight games at 4:46 of the first period with a snap shot from the bottom of the left faceoff circle that deflected off the skate of Chicago\u2019s Louis Crevier<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Werenski \u2014 who joined Phil Housley and Reed Larson<\/a> as the only American defensemen with consecutive 20-goal seasons \u2014 has two goals and eight assists during his scoring run.<\/p>\n

Provorov made it 2-0 at 12:50 of the first period when he went top shelf with a wrist shot past Knight to the short side.<\/p>\n

Columbus\u2019 defensemen have scored a league-high 44 goals this season.<\/p>\n
