As a recruiter, Detroit<\/a> Red Wings forward Patrick Kane<\/a> is a much better hockey player.<\/p>\n

Three years ago, when Kane was looking for an NHL team to join, he was wooed to Detroit partly by the lobbying efforts of Alex DeBrincat<\/a>, his former Chicago Blackhawks teammate and linemate.<\/p>\n

With Artemi Panarin<\/a> about to be moved by the New York Rangers, Kane sought to employ the same strategy on Panarin, his former Blackhawks teammate and linemate.<\/p>\n

This time it didn\u2019t work out in the Red Wings\u2019 favor.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, Patrick Kane was texting me like every day, probably,\u201d Panarin said.<\/p>\n

Panarin\u2019s explanation of why he rejected Kane\u2019s overtures came with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just told him I hate him,\u201d Panarin joked in reference to his good friend Kane. \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m not coming to Detroit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Panarin and Kane<\/a> were just as dynamic a duo in Chicago as Kane and DeBrincat. Kane was quite upset in 2017 when the Blackhawks dealt Panarin to the Columbus Blue Jackets.<\/p>\n

Red Wings Never Had A Chance To Get Panarin<\/p>\n

Since the deal went down, some Red Wings fans have offered criticism of Detroit GM Steve Yzerman, insisting the Wings could\u2019ve provided the New York Rangers with a much better offer than the one they accepted from the Kings.<\/p>\n

In reality, the Red Wings never had a chance. Panarin never included Detroit as part of the equation when breaking down where he wanted to go.<\/p>\n

There was only one destination he had in mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was the only place I wanted to go,\u201d Panarin said of Los Angeles. \u201cI just want to play for this organization.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not ready to pick a team where I did not want to go. If I didn\u2019t play for LA, I would probably go back to Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n
