I will tell some tales out of school. NHL players were watching the Gavin McKenna situation and everyone knew the details pretty quickly. <\/p>\n
McKenna gained some respect from players for what he did. I can\u2019t quote players or tell you their exact words, but if he walked into an NHL room today, he\u2019d get a lot pats on the back. <\/p>\n
I often wonder if we can ever dial back from the intense scrutiny of 24-hour news and social media, wherein people hear things but everything isn\u2019t in your face, and people\u2019s toughest moments aren\u2019t content fodder? In a larger sense, there is a good middle ground between the days when police would look the other way for athletes\u2019s terrible behavior and 2026 when TMZ is blasting his picture on TV before we knew the story. I wonder if we can get there.<\/p>\n

NHL DoPS is a tough job, but it must be done much better than it is now. <\/p>\n Actually, a media advisory council wouldn\u2019t be the worst thing, either.
