A former Vancouver Canucks defenseman believes that the team is going to have a very difficult time trying to recruit players, especially on the free agent market.<\/p>\n

“But prior to this, we already made the decision that we were going to go with younger players. Over the past few years, our staff has done a good job and we have a number of good young players, whether they’re in our lineup now or close to getting in our lineup. And those players are going to get a chance to play. Based on the circumstances with this team, this is the year to do it. The fact of the matter is we’re in a rebuild.” President of Hockey Operations Rutherford said.<\/p>\n

Former Vancouver Canuck believes team will have tough time recruiting players<\/p>\n

Aside from their on-ice performances over the last couple of years, there’s been plenty of noise off it as well, from a feud between J.T. Miller & Elias Pettersson to questions about the team’s character & culture and issues with the Canucks being one of only a couple teams in the NHL without their own practice arena.<\/p>\n

The off-ice noise can be distracting for a player and for former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Frank Corrado, he believes that they might have a tough time recruiting guys to come to play for the club.<\/p>\n

“Guys want quiet, guys want low-maintenance, guys want to play in markets where you don’t get bothered. Well, not saying you don’t get bothered Vancouver, but Canadian markets are loud already and then when there is internal stuff that goes on, it’s the old, it’s like, it’s a double-doink, man.” Corrado said.<\/p>\n

To be fair, if the Canucks are fully invested in this rebuild, then they won’t be in the market for any high-end free agents anytime soon, so they don’t have to worry too much on that, but trying to convince older players, veterans, to come to town to help mentor their younger players might be tough for Patrik Allvin & Co.<\/p>\n
