The Edmonton Oilers and Andrew Mangiapane haven’t been a match made in heaven, and now a trade is expected before the March 6 trade deadline.<\/p>\n

While the Olympic freeze has halted any movement throughout the NHL, trade talks are heating up and there’s growing speculation the Oilers are advancing in their quest to move Mangiapane. The 29-year-old winger hasn’t been able to carve himself a role in Edmonton and hasn’t been able to adjust being moved down the lineup into more of a checking role.<\/p>\n

Nick Kypreos: The Oilers continue to work the market for Andrew Mangiapane and should be able to find a partner by March 6, though the return isn’t likely to be anything major – Sportsnet (2\/2)<\/p>\n

Mangiapane is averaging 12:42 of ice-time per game in his first season in Edmonton, which is his lowest usage since the 2019 season. Mangiapane has produced just six goals and six assists for 12 points in 49 games.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a lot to discuss in Edmonton, but let\u2019s start with this: the Oilers need to move Andrew Mangiapane. It\u2019s clear he\u2019s not a fit for Kris Knoblauch, and there\u2019s no point in pretending otherwise. Cut the losses and move on. They\u2019ve searched for more players who\u2019d be willing to accept a bottom-six role, like Kasperi Kapanen has. That\u2019s one thing I still see them battling, carving out roles everyone accepts and is comfortable with. This was something Toronto battled with in the Core Four era and has evaded the Oilers. Empowering everyone on the roster to feel valuable and important turned Florida from good to great – 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman<\/a><\/p>\n

Mangiapane is signed through next season at $3.6 million AAV and this season, owns a full no-trade clause. There’s been a lot of talk about the Maple Leafs and Oilers emerging as trade partners, and Mangiapane, Calle Jarnkrok and Bobby McMann could be involved.<\/p>\n
