For Celebrini, he shifts to the wing to play with Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid and Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson.

First line rushes.

Celebrini McDavid Wilson
Suzuki MacKinnon Marchand
Stone Crosby Marner
Hagel Horvat Reinhart
Bennett Jarvis

— Ryan Rishaug (@TSNRyanRishaug) February 8, 2026

During the San Jose Sharks’ final road trip before the Olympic break, Celebrini was asked about potentially playing with McDavid for Team Canada.

“Tonight, I hope he doesn’t do anything, and in a week, I hope he does a lot,” Celebrini said.

While lines at the first practice may not stick, there was chatter throughout the hockey world that pairing Celebrini with McDavid could be a possibility. McDavid has shown great chemistry with a skillful, puck-hounding style of play like Zach Hyman. Although Hyman didn’t make the roster, Celebrini could bring similar elements to the line as Hyman does.

The addition of Wilson on that line may come as a shock to some, but Wilson could work well with the superstars. In 50 games this season, Wilson has 23 goals and 26 assists, while being +20. Everyone knows his reputation as a physical player that sometimes crosses the line, but his size and speed could do wonders for the San Jose Sharks franchise player.

Not only could Wilson have Celebrini’s back, but he will be able to create space on the ice for McDavid and Celebrini to make magic, while still being a solid offensive complement. During IIHF play, which the Olympics are, fighting is not allowed. So while Wilson won’t be able to fight to send a message, he is arguably the best hitter in the entire tournament.

Pierre LeBrun also reported the d-pairs for Canada’s first practice.

Why not Celebrini and Crosby again?

Sidney Crosby requested to play with Celebrini at the 2025 IIHF World Championship. The duo showcased terrific chemistry, but they aren’t on a line for Canada just yet.

Lines will almost certainly change as the tournament goes on, so don’t rule out a Crosby, Celebrini line just yet. The Sharks star is joining a Team Canada roster that is filled with players who won the 4 Nations Face-Off. The gold medal is the dream for the Canadians, and Jon Cooper will do what he feels is best for success.

I’ve partnered with SWIFT Hockey! The Swift Hockey mission is simple: to make premium hockey sticks at the best possible price.
