{"id":451812,"date":"2026-02-09T04:04:26","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T04:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/451812\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T04:04:26","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T04:04:26","slug":"bruins-pastrnak-and-mcavoy-named-alternate-captain-at-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/451812\/","title":{"rendered":"Bruins\u2019 Pastrnak and McAvoy Named Alternate Captain At Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Boston Bruins have no captain this season; they opted for three alternate captains.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two of those alternate captains will wear the \u2018A\u2019 while representing their countries in Milan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/czehockey\/status\/2020566511610393007?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">On Sunday afternoon<\/a>, Team Czechia announced <a href=\"https:\/\/puckpedia.com\/player\/roman-cervenka\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roman Cervenka<\/a> (HC Dynamo Pardubice) as its captain. <a href=\"http:\/\/puckpedia.com\/player\/david-pastrnak\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Pastrnak<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/puckpedia.com\/player\/radko-gudas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Radko Gudas<\/a> (Anaheim) will be the alternate captains.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pastrnak was an alternate captain with Team Czechia at the 2013 and 2014 U-18 World Junior Championships. He has been an alternate with Boston since the 2021-22 season, and he also captained the Atlantic Division at the 2020 All-Star Game in San Jose.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This season with the Bruins, Pastrnak has embraced the role of a playmaker. He has 71 points (22-49\u201371) this season, with 26 points coming on the power play (9-17\u201326).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is Pastrnak\u2019s first Olympic appearance, and <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/2026\/02\/07\/daily-bean-bruins-olympic-updates-mckenna-freed-panthers-protected-pick\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he carried<\/a> the Czech flag during the Opening Ceremony.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Team Czechia\u2019s first game is on Feb. 12 against Team Canada. They are playing in Group A with France, Switzerland, and Canada.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/2026\/02\/07\/pavel-zacha-injury-will-keep-him-away-from-the-olympics\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">READ MORE: Pavel Zacha\u2019s Injury Will Keep Him Away From the Olympics<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the Czech announcement, USA Hockey announced its <a href=\"https:\/\/teamusa.usahockey.com\/news_article\/show\/1355154\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">leadership group for Milan<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Auston Matthews (<a href=\"http:\/\/torontohockeynow.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto<\/a>) will wear the captain\u2019s \u2018C.\u2019 He is joined by <a href=\"http:\/\/puckpedia.com\/player\/charlie-mcavoy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charlie McAvoy<\/a> and Matthew Tkachuk (<a href=\"http:\/\/floridahockeynow.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida<\/a>) as alternate captains.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>McAvoy was an alternate captain for Team USA at the Four Nations Face-Off last year. He also wore the \u2018A\u2019 at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship. He has been an alternate captain in Boston since the 2023-24 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The leadership group remains the same from the Four Nations Face-Off in Boston and Montreal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>McAvoy, like many skaters in the tournament, is making his Olympic debut. He has skated in six tournaments representing the United States before the games in Milan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Team USA opens the Olympic tournament on Feb. 12 with a game against Latvia.
