As Canadians, we\u2019re known, generally, for being kind and polite people. However, that doesn\u2019t mean we won\u2019t fight back when push comes to shove. And that certainly doesn\u2019t mean we won\u2019t engage in some harmless, petty jabbing<\/a>, either.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the biggest story heading into the 2026 Winter Olympics \u2014 and, really, any Winter Games \u2014 is the Team Canada-Team USA men\u2019s hockey rivalry. Back in December, NBC, the official Olympic broadcaster in the United States, decided to turn up the heat with an ad featuring the U.S. men\u2019s hockey team looking to bring home the biggest prize of all, \u201cCanadian Tears.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, it took a little while, but it seems that Bell Canada has ended up responding to that ad in kind in a very Canadian manner, using the same locker room setting.<\/p>\n

With Canadian Jay Baruchel as the Canadian stand-in for Jon Hamm, the ad strikes a more communal tone, focusing on what fans can do to help support Team Canada instead of a group of players obsessing over an opponent.<\/p>\n

The differences between the two similar ads have been noticed. In a curiocitycanada Instagram post, people are commenting on the contrast in the approach between the two.<\/p>\n

\u201cLove that they are so focused on us when Canada is focused on winning!! \ud83c\udde8\ud83c\udde6 \ud83c\udfd2 GO CANADA GO,\u201d jen.lottman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact Canada takes up rent in the USA’s brain says it all\u2026 we\u2019ve already won \ud83d\udc4c\ud83c\udffc,\u201d offsb.ifbbpro added.<\/p>\n

\u201cCanada answering polite and smart, love it \ud83d\udc4f\ud83c\udffd \ud83c\udde8\ud83c\udde6 \ud83d\udd25 let\u2019s go Canada \ud83d\udcaa\ud83c\udffd,\u201d cesar__garnica responded.<\/p>\n

“The REPRESENTATION in Team \ud83c\udde8\ud83c\udde6\u2019s ad is everything to us! GO CANADA \ud83c\udde8\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\udf41,” wrote johnloveyan.<\/p>\n

Of course, as mentioned off the jump, this isn\u2019t to say Canadians can\u2019t be petty, either.<\/p>\n

While Bell took the high ground with their ad, the CBC opted to stoop a little lower, with a not-so-subtle indirect jab at the NBC commercial. During an ad break, the CBC ran The Weeknd\u2019s Save Your Tears to highlights of Canada defeating the U.S. in last year\u2019s 4 Nations Face-Off and a closing caption saying, “Go get ’em boys.”<\/p>\n

Regardless if these ads are intentional responses or not, what is certain is that we can\u2019t wait to see Canada and the U.S. face off in men\u2019s hockey.<\/p>\n
