With the Rasmus Andersson trade <\/a>behind them, the Calgary Flames can focus on the road ahead. Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri have been named as trade deadline targets. If teams are looking to buy, they can certainly look to the Calgary Flames to take on bad contracts. Just because they can, doesn\u2019t mean they will. This may be the time Craig Conroy listens to offers he can\u2019t refuse. <\/p>\n

Battle of Alberta Swap?<\/p>\n

Andrew Mangiapane is not having a good time in Edmonton. The former Flame has just six goals, 12 points in 49 games. Mangiapane is signed through next season. On the Flames\u2019 side of things, Yegor Sharangovich has scored 11 goals and 20 points through 52 games. Sharangovich is a year into his five-year deal. It feels like a no-brainer to flip that contract for a cheaper and shorter deal. The issue here is that I don\u2019t see the Flames using their last retention spot for Sharangovich. That spot seems likely reserved for Nazem Kadri.<\/p>\n

Verdict: I like it if you aren\u2019t using that final retention spot. The Flames will also clear a roster spot for one of their young guns sooner. <\/p>\n

Coleman to the Canes<\/p>\n

The Flames are at the point in their rebiggle (and have been for a season or two) where they can take on less-than-favourable contracts. Jesperi Kotkaniemi is halfway through his eight-year contract. He was a good fit for the Carolina Hurricanes, but now it\u2019s time to ship him out. His production has dropped drastically, making him less than effective. Two goals and nine points in 36 games is not a great look. 20 or more teams had called<\/a> for Blake Coleman. It wouldn\u2019t surprise me if Carolina were more aggressive come the deadline.<\/p>\n

Verdict: The Flames can afford to do this, and they\u2019d pick up a valuable asset in an additional 2027 1st round pick. This would be something the Flames should consider.<\/p>\n

Lomberg back to Florida?<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think this needs much of an explanation. Ryan Lomberg has been a semi-frequent scratch this season. The Flames have players waiting in the wings. They\u2019ve worked hard enough to earn a consistent spot in the lineup. <\/p>\n

Verdict: Yes, thanks for being the Oilers\u2019 daddy. Go to Tampa.<\/p>\n

Pit stop in Calgary<\/p>\n

The Rasmus Andersson trade would look more successful if the Flames could flip Zach Whitecloud at the deadline. Their log jam at the blueline has been clearing up thanks to moves like the Andersson trade as well as the recent Jeremie Poirier<\/a> trade. Let\u2019s make a little more room.<\/p>\n

Verdict: Yes, works for me. <\/p>\n

Mackenzie on the move?<\/p>\n

This physically pains me. A year ago, I would\u2019ve said not a chance. Weegar has been a vital part of the Flames\u2019 leadership group since arriving. Unfortunately, he has struggled this season, leading to concern for the remainder of his contract. <\/p>\n

Verdict: You can\u2019t say no to a first-round pick. If they are willing to give you their 2026 first, you take it. The Flames need all they can get and have had some great drafting since Conroy took over. <\/p>\n
