The Edmonton Oilers have themselves a struggling player who needs a change of scenery, in Andrew Mangiapane.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Kings also have a floundering forward, making around the same money ($3.5M to $3.6M) in ex-Oiler Warren Foegele.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Who says no to a one-for-one swap of the 29-year-olds?<\/p>\n

Foegele for Mangiapane. Dollars are almost equal and both have year left.<\/p>\n

In Los Angeles, Foegele had a terrific first season with the team after leaving Edmonton and signing a three-year, $10.5 million deal in the summer of 2024. The bottom-six forward popped a career-high 24 goals and 46 points in his debut with the Kings last year. But he has struggled mightily this season, with just six goals and eight points in 43 games. He was even a healthy scratch on a couple of occasions before the break.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Naturally, that’s led to some trade talk, and Kings GM Ken Holland wasn’t about to dispel those rumors.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kings GM makes it clear he’s looking to trade Warren Foegele. Are the Oilers a fit?<\/p>\n

“We got a lot of forwards obviously,\u201d Holland said. \u201cWarren Foegele had a great year last year. He\u2019s been out of the line-up a couple of nights, the last couple of games. Got to work the phones here\u2026 As we get near to the end of the Olympic break the phones will start humming again. So we\u2019ll see if there\u2019s a fit.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a buy-low target, he could be a nice addition back into the mix for the Oilers. The team knows him well, and he fit in nicely as a bottom-six piece with teams that went to the Stanley Cup Finals twice. Despite his poor offensive performance this season, he’s still a strong defensive player and has some value on the penalty-kill as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s an intriguing possibility, and it’s hard to believe the two sides haven’t considered it. Look for something to happen with both of these players before the trade deadline \u2014 maybe even in the same deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
