In 2023, Mark Cuban sold his majority stake<\/a> in the Dallas Mavericks<\/a> to Patrick Dumont. Since then, the Mavericks have been to the NBA Finals, but following that, there has been a lot of shakeup in the organization. In an attempt to get the franchise back in order, there is an investor group looking to partner<\/a> with Cuban to buy it back, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.<\/p>\n

\u201cBREAKING: An unidentified Dallas investor group is interested in partnering with Mark Cuban to buy the Mavericks back from Patrick Dumont, TheSteinLine has learned. A source close to Dumont told me \u2018the family remains excited about the future of the franchise and the Cooper Flagg era,’\u201d Stein wrote on X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n

During a 2024 interview with Wired’s Lauren Goode, Cuban shared why he decided to sell<\/a> his stake.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s more platforming for the next step,\u201d Cuban said. \u201cI don’t look at myself and think, \u2018I’m a man of a certain age. I’ve got to change what I’m doing.’ No. It’s more like, I like to disrupt things. I like to play the game. I like to compete in business.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mavericks are heading into a new direction with Flagg as the cornerstone of the team, and it looks like the investor group has some big plans for how they want the franchise to move forward.<\/p>\n

The only thing is that Dumont may not have any interest in selling his stake, which makes sense since he hasn’t had the team for that long.
