It\u2019s just day two of practice for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics. On day one, New Jersey Devils<\/a> forward Jack Hughes didn\u2019t have a clearly defined role. However, on Monday his role became a little clearer.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s practice for Team USA confirmed one thing. Their top-six was going to look mostly the same, five of the six same forwards intact from last year\u2019s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. The odd-man out?<\/p>\n

Jack Hughes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At least at the beginning of the Olympic hockey camps, Hughes\u2019 place in the top-six next to his 4 Nations Face-Off linemates, Auston Matthews and Jake Guentzel, now belongs to Matt Boldy. Hughes skated in an uncertain bottom-six with the remaining Team USA forwards with an undefined role.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, his role\u2014so far\u2014has been revealed.<\/p>\n

Hughes is lining up on the fourth line for Team USA, which is occupied by New York Rangers forwars J.T. Miller and Vincent Trocheck, Colorado Avalanche forward Brock Nelson, and Hughes.<\/p>\n

Important context to remember here is that for the Olympic games, 13 forwards and seven defensemen dress. <\/p>\n

Hughes, playing right wing on Team USA\u2019s fourth line, appears to be a regular among the 12 forwards in the group, as Trocheck took rotations with Nelson as the 13th forward.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Sullivan declared Hughes a \u201cfull-go,\u201d ruling out a decreased role this in the Olympic tournament\u2014as opposed to his top six role in the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament\u2014due to injury.<\/p>\n
