The assessment that Detroit<\/a> Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin<\/a> offers of GM Steve Yzerman<\/a> is not unlike the usual public perception of Stevie Y.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s an enigma, shrouded in mystery and cloaked in secrecy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean this respectfully,\u201d Larkin said during an exclusive interview<\/a> with website rg.org<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s a pretty private guy, and I believe most of the stuff we talk about should stay private.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he\u2019s been a great role model for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Larkin believes that Yzerman is pleased with the progress that the Red Wings are showing this season. However, even in that assessment, he\u2019s not 100% certain.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s happy with how we\u2019ve played,\u201d Larkin<\/a> said. \u201cWe feel good about it in the room, and we\u2019re focused on the next game.<\/p>\n

Larkin was outspoken in his disappointment that management didn\u2019t do more to help the team\u2019s playoff bid at last year\u2019s NHL trade deadline. As the March 6 deadline day approaches, he believes that this time around, Yzerman will do what is needed to push the team over the top and into the postseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really trust that he\u2019ll handle the rest,\u201d Larkin said.<\/p>\n

Larkin Excited By Red Wings Playoff Prospects<\/p>\n

The Red Wings haven\u2019t played in the playoffs since 2016. Detroit\u2019s last playoff series win was in 2013. Currently sitting third in the Atlantic Division, the Wings are poised to end that nearly decade-long postseason drought.<\/p>\n

Larkin is the sole remaining member from the club\u2019s last playoff appearance, and he\u2019s hungry for more.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve grown up in Michigan and grew up a Red Wings fan,\u201d Larkin said. \u201cI was on the team the last time we were in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be unbelievable to play a playoff game \u2013 the first playoff game at Little Caesars Arena in hockey history. It would mean a lot to our fans and mean a lot to me . . . being here through some tough days and getting into the playoffs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Larkin also makes it abundantly clear that it isn\u2019t just about making the playoffs. He thinks this team could go on a roll and make a run if they got into the NHL postseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou get in and get a good, favorable matchup \u2013 there are no easy nights in the NHL \u2013 but you get a good matchup, start to build confidence, and get on a roll,\u201d Larkin said. \u201cIf we get a couple of wins early in the playoffs, if we get there, I think we could do some damage.\u201d<\/p>\n
