Earlier today, Team Switzerland unveiled its leadership<\/a> for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will include New Jersey Devils\u2019 captain Nico Hischier<\/a>. Alongside Nino Niederreiter, Andrea Glauser, and Kevin Fiala, Hischier will wear an \u201cA,\u201d with Nashville Predators\u2019 Roman Josi serving as captain.<\/p>\n

Previously, Hischier was named captain of Switzerland at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, but was injured early on in the tournament. In four games, he recorded two goals and one assist, and Switzerland went on to earn a silver medal for the second year in a row.<\/p>\n

Currently, Hischier leads the Devils in both goals (19) and points (42), marking yet another season where he\u2019s served as a catalyst for New Jersey. The 27-year-old went on an impressive point stretch prior to the Olympic break, with four goals in seven games.<\/p>\n

In June, he was named to Switzerland\u2019s preliminary Olympic roster<\/a>, alongside teammates Timo Meier<\/a> and Jonas Siegenthaler<\/a>. Together, the \u201cSwiss Trio\u201d is expected to have a significant impact, as the country seeks its first medal since winning bronze in 1948.<\/p>\n

Ahead of his Olympic debut, he shared how head coach Patrick Fischer<\/a> gave Team Switzerland confidence, stressing the importance of going in with the proper mindset. \u201cPatrick has done an unbelievable job for Swiss hockey. He made us believe and gave us the right mindset you need to have to be a good team,\u201d said Hischier.<\/p>\n

During practice in Milan, Hischier was placed on Switzerland\u2019s top line<\/a>, skating between Fiala and Meier. Throughout the tournament, Hischier will be expected to lead with his exceptional two-way play and elite offensive production.<\/p>\n
