Okay, maybe not, but we’ll have to suck it up and hope for the best for their latest new uniform leak.

The Hurricanes are rumored to acquire a new specialty jersey, alongside 31 other NHL teams, in the 2026-27 season, according to a leak from u/PollutionSoggy9411 on Reddit. The individual claimed to be an employee of an unspecified hockey retailer and shared details listed in their inventory for an upcoming campaign.

The list included the primary colors per team, the price tags ($200 USD blank, $230 USD with nameplate), and its abbreviation, ‘HTR’.

Normally, unconfirmed rumors from unofficial sources are taken with a grain of salt, as the leaker stated themselves; however, a recent search gave some credence to the rumor.

Per Glenn Cook at SportsLogos.net, the NHL’s primary Jersey supplier, Fanatics, filed a trademark through the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the phrase “Hometown Remix” – matching the abbreviation initially provided.

The Hurricanes Have the Chance to Make Something Truly Unique

The Hurricanes’ primary color was listed as gray by the leaker.

During the Reverse Retro campaign, their 2021 kit was inspired by the Hartford Whalers, but with gray as the base color. Meanwhile, their 2022-23 kit was merely a recoloring of their road uniforms from 2019-2024.

Considering the colors listed for other teams, such as green for the Anaheim Ducks and pink for the Florida Panthers, it sounds as though there may be more freedom in design for this edition of uniforms. After all, a ‘remix’ is a lot less specific than something tagged with the words ‘retro’.

While this could see the return of a classic homage to the Whalers, the Hurricanes should use this as a chance to build something unique and celebrate their true hometown in Raleigh. While I’m not sure how oak trees and acorns would look on a uniform, it would be better than just pushing forward a design we’ve already seen so many times.

Honestly, can we just have a giant crest of Stormy on the chest? Seth Jarvis would agree…

Rachel Barkley is a beat writer covering the Carolina Hurricanes for Carolina Hockey Now on Sportsnaut.
