Detroit<\/a> Red Wings left wing Lucas Raymond<\/a> was held off the scoresheet as Sweden downed Italy 5-2 on Wednesday in the Olympic hockey tournament. Five different players scored for Sweden, with Raymond\u2019s Olympic roommate, defenseman Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres, dishing out three assists. The Swedes are 1-0 in the tournament.<\/p>\n

Raymond played 15:25, the fourth-highest total among Swedish forwards. He skated 18 shifts, averaging 51 seconds per shift.<\/p>\n

Playing in his first Olympic Game, Raymond<\/a> put three of Sweden\u2019s 60 shots on Italian goalie Damian Clara. He was even for the game.<\/p>\n

Sweden\u2019s 60 shots were an Olympic record. The shots were 20-3 Sweden after 13 minutes, but the scoreboard read 1-0 Italy. The game was much closer than the score would indicate. Mika Zibanejad of the New York Rangers made it 4-2 with four minutes to play. Victor Hedman of the Tampa Bay Lightning completed the scoring with an empty-net goal.<\/p>\n

Damian Clara, the first-ever Italian player drafted to the NHL, made his presence known despite falling to Sweden in the Men’s Hockey preliminary round \ud83d\udc4f <\/p>\n

Sweden\u2019s Prince Daniel took in the game<\/a> and visited the Swedish dressing room before the contest. Isabella Wrana, gold medal-winner for the Swedes in Olympic mixed curling, also took in the game, opting to skip watching her brother and fellow mixed double gold medalist Rasmus play in Sweden\u2019s men\u2019s curling opener.<\/p>\n

Analysis<\/p>\n

It\u2019s already clear that Raymond is one of the go-to players<\/a> on the Swedish team. His 60 points for the Red Wings this season are the most by any player in Sweden\u2019s lineup. He\u2019s skating on Sweden\u2019s second forward line alongside Jesper Bratt of the New Jersey Devils and Elias Lindholm of the Boston Bruins.<\/p>\n

It appears that he will be a primary set-up man from the wing on the No. 1 power play. He may be as important to the Swedish national team as he is to the Red Wings.<\/p>\n
