{"id":456932,"date":"2026-02-13T16:31:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T16:31:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/456932\/"},"modified":"2026-02-13T16:31:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T16:31:11","slug":"all-three-goalies-skate-as-canadas-starter-vs-switzerland-remains-unclear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/456932\/","title":{"rendered":"All three goalies skate as Canada\u2019s starter vs. Switzerland remains unclear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">All three Canadian goaltenders skated Friday morning as it remains unclear who will start the team\u2019s second game of the Olympic tournament against Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Jordan Binnington, Logan Thompson\u00a0and\u00a0Darcy Kuemper all took shots from goaltending consultant David Alexander with no skaters on the ice during the gameday session.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Thompson was the first goalie on the ice and the first to depart the session, hinting he could be in line for his first Olympic start.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Canadian head coach Jon Cooper said Wednesday he expected to start two goaltenders over the first two games, leaving either Thompson or Kuemper to start against the Swiss after Binnington posted a 26-save shutout against Czechia on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Travis Sanheim, Seth Jarvis and Kuemper served as scratches for the win over Czechia. His status in unclear but the injury could lead to Sanheim dressing in his place Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Jarvis may also draw into the lineup in place of fellow late addition to the roster Sam Bennett, who saw a team-low of ice time among forwards Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/live\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/live\">Watch Canada vs. Switzerland LIVE on TSN at 3pm ET\/Noon PT.<\/a><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">All three goaltenders came out to do some work, but interesting that there were no shooters other than David Alexander.  No scratches came out which makes one think Jarvis may be going tonight. Rare to have no skaters to work out the goalies.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ryan Rishaug (@TSNRyanRishaug) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TSNRyanRishaug\/status\/2022276451098128846?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 13, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Thompson has the best stats of\u00a0Canada\u2019s\u00a0three goaltending options in the NHL this season, as he is 19-16-4 with the Washington Capitals while recording a .912 save percentage and 2.45 GAA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Kuemper is 14-11-9 with a .900 save percentage and 2.59 GAA with the Los Angeles Kings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Binnington has struggled the most in the NHL this season. He is 8-17-6 with an .864 save percentage and 3.65 goals-against average as the St. Louis Blues are in second-last place in the Western Conference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Binnington, however, backstopped Canada to victory at the 4 Nations Face-Off last winter, and rewarded\u00a0Cooper\u2019s belief in him again Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI can\u2019t predict how things are going to go, but I have extreme confidence in that kid, and I have for the past year,\u201d Cooper said of Binnington following Thursday\u2019s win. \u201cHe\u2019s a proven winner to me.
