It was an ugly situation in Milan today, as late in Canada’s 5-1 victory over Switzerland, Swiss (and LA Kings) forward Kevin Fiala was seriously injured when he went down awkwardly in a collision with Tom Wilson. He had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was Fiala’s lower left leg that took the brunt of it. He was hurt seriously enough that he couldn’t even roll over onto his back when they attempted to lift him onto the stretcher.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both teams, Switzerland and Team Canada, completely left their benches to take to the ice to stick tap in support of Fiala as he was stretchered off.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s the biggest nightmare for NHL teams during these international games, when a player is injured, and the Los Angeles Kings are the unfortunate club that will have to pay the price here. Fiala’s Olympic Games are over, but what this will mean for the rest of the season with the Kings remains to be seen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old was in the midst of what would have been his 7th consecutive 20+ goal season in the NHL. He had 18 goals and 40 points in 56 games for LA, logging a career-high 19:07 of ice time per night, while playing often on the first power play unit.<\/p>\n
