Four games remain before the playoffs, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men\u2019s hockey team is fighting to secure its spot.<\/p>\n

They have a young team this year, bringing in six\u00a0new players.\u00a0Tyler\u00a0Krueger,\u00a0head coach of the men\u2019s hockey team for the past nine seasons\u00a0said,\u00a0\u201cNot the first time we\u2019ve turned over a big group and brought in a new group,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last year, the team graduated seven seniors. This year,\u00a0they\u00a0have\u00a0four\u00a0senior\u00a0players, including two goalies.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew it was going to be a bit of an adjustment early on with the younger guys, especially getting some experience in the game.\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Krueger.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0been a tough year for the\u00a0men\u2019s hockey team,\u00a0result-wise. They are\u00a0currently 9-10-2 for the season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s\u00a0more losses than\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0had in a lot of years, but\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0been in every single game.\u00a0There\u00a0haven\u2019t\u00a0been any blowouts.\u201d Krueger said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Quinton Hill, senior and assistant team captain said, \u201cWe are starting to find our\u00a0game at the right time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s hockey team has competed in the conference for the past nine seasons. They\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0focus on the\u00a0results,\u00a0they focus on the progress they make along the way and how much they improve.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cTake the results out of the equation.\u00a0We just want to play hockey better.\u201d Krueger said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sean Bunting, senior and team captain said, \u201cWe had two steps forward and three back, but we\u2019ve been playing better the past month and a half.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The team\u2019s margin for error is small.\u00a0\u201cGoals have\u00a0been\u00a0adjusted\u00a0mid-season\u00a0but ultimately, they\u00a0are here to play better hockey.\u201d\u00a0Krueger said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the end of the day, each player wants to win the national championship. \u201cWe can lean on each other, push each other\u00a0and pick each other up.\u201d\u00a0Hill said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The fans and atmosphere motivate the players to keep going, especially during tight games.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have an atmosphere that you can\u2019t beat.\u201d Krueger said. The Men\u2019s hockey team\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0only push themselves for their own benefit, but for their community. \u201cOur program matters to the community.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The support from the student section, band, and community amps up the players. Bunting said, \u201cWe always peak out and see how big the line is when we are getting dressed.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can feel the stomping from the crowd as\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0coming out. That\u00a0definitely amps\u00a0us up.\u201d Bunting said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
