Mercogliano. They write that Boston is further along this season than many believed they’d be and added, “Trocheck would make their lineup more formidable for the final push after years of searching for help down the middle, but Boston would presumably be reluctant to part with the necessary picks and prospects to get it done.”

What Would It Cost the Bruins To Land Trocheck?

What it would take to get a deal done is unclear, but the cost isn’t low. The scribes add that New York will try to get the best return possible, and with nine other teams on their list of potential suitors, the Bruins would have to pony up.

“The supply-and-demand factor leads us to believe Drury’s best opportunity to maximize his return on Trocheck is in the lead-up to the March 6 trade deadline. If Drury holds onto Trocheck too long, the center’s play could start to decline as he enters his mid-30s.”

Baugh and Mercogliano pointed out that Boston, like Pittsburgh, has exceeded expectations this season and finds itself firmly in the playoff picture at the Olympic break. Adding a player like Trocheck, they suggested, would further strengthen a lineup, and this deadline might be the deadline in which to take action.

Trocheck could slide into the Bruins’ top six and his two-way reliability makes him a natural candidate for both special teams units. Trocheck carries a $5.625 million cap hit through the 2028-29 season, making him more than a short-term rental. If the Bruins are looking for a piece that can help beyond one playoff run, that cost certainty could be attractive.

Don Sweeney Boston Bruins plans for the deadline

Is There a Better Play for Boston?

As nice as it would be to pluck Trocheck from the Rangers, with Elias Lindholm rebounding and Fraser Minten emerging, center depth is no longer the glaring issue for the Bruins as it once appeared to be. A major move for a top-four, right-shot defenseman may be the better play.

If the Bruins don’t want to get into a bidding war, let the Wild, Red Wings, Mammoth, Avalanche, Hurricanes, Stars, Penguins, Kings, and Islanders battle over him. They were all mentioned as fits as well.

Still, if the price is right, Trocheck remains an intriguing option. Through 43 games this season, he has 12 goals and 36 points.

Next: 2026 NHL Trade Deadline Primer: Montreal Canadiens

Discover more from NHL Trade Talk

Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email.

The Boston Bruins remain connected to big names as the trade market slowly takes shape — and one…

[5099
154,95,5132,530,5,4,2175,3042
0":"post-458076","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-boston-bruins","8":"tag-boston","9":"tag-boston-bruins","10":"tag-bostonbruins","11":"tag-bruins","12":"tag-hockey","13":"tag-nhl","14":"tag-top-story","15":"tag-vincent-trocheck
["GET
