Germany went into the Olympics hoping a good showing would bring attention to the sport in that soccer-mad country.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A loss to Latvia Saturday surely got fans attention, but noit in the wy they had hoped.<\/p>\n

Dans Locmelis scored twice as Latvia pulled out a 4-3 victory<\/a>, damaging\u00a0Germany\u2019s prospects for medal contention in Group C, with a game against the United States next on the schedule.<\/p>\n

TIME ON ICE<\/p>\n

Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider was on the ice for 27:41, second only to forward Leon Draisaitl on the German team. He was once again paired with Fabio Wagner to start.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PRODUCTION<\/p>\n

Seider got off three shots and was +1.<\/p>\n

GAME NOTES<\/p>\n

It was only the second Olympic matchup between the nations, coming after a 4-1 German win at Salt Lake City in 2002, and only the second Latvian win this century against the Germans. It was Latvia\u2019s first Olympic win since 2014.<\/p>\n

ANALYSIS<\/p>\n

It was a game Germany needed, but couldn\u2019t capitalize on. Germany\u2019s coach and players thought it played the better game, but it was Latvia<\/a> that celebrated on the ice long after Germany had retreated to its locker room.<\/p>\n
