<\/a>The two-time Stanley Cup champions are finding themselves in an unfamiliar situation this season. The Florida Panthers could actually look to sell off a body or two as we approach the March 6th trade deadline.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One pending unrestricted free agent that could become trade fodder is physical bottom-six forward AJ Greer, per analyst Jason Gregor on the DFO Rundown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

An AJ Greer type player, I just wonder, what type of value he might have for a (rival) team? He has won some Cups… He’s a very defined role player, but those types of guys, man, he comes in… he’s physical, and he can play. So I wonder if a team is looking for a little more aggressiveness… I know that’s Florida’s M.O., but are they gonna want to keep both him and (Jonah) Gadjovich?<\/p>\n

Both heavy-hitting forwards are pending UFAs. Greer has proven himself in two seasons in Florida as a contributor both on the physical end of things (222 hits last season, 145 thus far this year), and even on the offensive side of the puck a bit this season, with 11 goals and 21 points.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gadjovich has yet to show much offensive touch, but his gritty, fearless, imposing physical presence has also been a boon to the Cats in limited minutes on the fourth line.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Panthers are in a difficult position cap-wise after all the spending last summer, so Gregor’s point about likely only wanting to keep one or the other of Greer or Gadjovich is well taken.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Florida has played the whole season without its top player, captain Aleksander Barkov, as well as the entire first half without another key leader, Matthew Tkachuk. As a result, they find themselves in last place in the Atlantic Division, eight points back of a Wild Card spot.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
