And he dreams of lighting it up there again one day.<\/p>\n<p>Frequently, in fact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, of course, I\u2019m gonna think about getting (called) up,\u201d Brandsegg-Nygard said. \u201cIt\u2019s my dream, and I wanna play in Detroit, but I mean, I\u2019m happy here, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a lot of good guys to learn from here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An education is what it\u2019s all about for <a href=\"https:\/\/detroithockeynow.com\/2025\/11\/27\/brandsegg-nygard-grand-rapids-griffins-recall-timetable-improvement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Brandsegg-Nygard<\/a> in this, his first full season of North American hockey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust learning how the American hockey works,\u201d Brandsegg-Nygard said. \u201cAnd I feel like I\u2019m just getting used to it being tighter in the smaller space, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">No cones, no problem. <\/p>\n<p>Teammates make the perfect cones for warmies. <\/p>\n<p>Michael Brandsegg-Nyg\u00e5rd is a resourceful man.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/gogrg?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#gogrg<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/lgrw?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#lgrw<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ahl?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#ahl<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/38RHbdW566\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/38RHbdW566<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elaine Shircliff (@imaraindancer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/imaraindancer\/status\/2023136549102108988?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 15, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Seeing duty in nine games with the Red Wings to start the season, Brandsegg-Nygard was then reassigned to the AHL <a href=\"https:\/\/griffinshockey.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Grand Rapids Griffins<\/a>. He accumulated just one assist and was minus-five over his nine-game NHL audition.<\/p>\n<p>In 43 games with the Griffins, MBN shows 8-18-26 totals.<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot-1, 204-pound Norwegian was providing an imposing physical presence during his Detroit tenure. Brandsegg-Nygard dished out 28 hits in those nine games. His 60-minute average of 14.99 hits far and away leads the team.<\/p>\n<p>Red Wings Pick Adapting To North American Game<\/p>\n<p>The 15th overall selection in the 2024 NHL entry draft, Brandsegg-Nygard made a late-season cameo with the Grffins during the 2024-25 campaign. That was a sampling. This season, he\u2019s partaking in the entire menu. And while it\u2019s clear that he\u2019s coming to the ice with plenty of tools, arming his toolbox with the entire arsenal remains a work in progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s getting used to North American hockey, which he has,\u201d Griffins coach <a href=\"https:\/\/detroithockeynow.com\/2023\/06\/14\/griffins-name-dan-watson-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dan Watson<\/a> said. \u201cHe\u2019s a physical player, which is great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Michael Brandsegg-Nygard was a physical presence again in the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/griffinshockey?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@griffinshockey<\/a> 5-2 road win over Milwaukee. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HjHiLBXDvE\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/HjHiLBXDvE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bob Kaser (@bkaser1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bkaser1\/status\/2018909269152637123?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 4, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Clearly, Brandsegg-Nygard has much more to offer as a player than to be a bruiser. He\u2019s capable of shooting the puck with power and accuracy. MBN also delivers pucks with a scorer\u2019s quick release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about him getting into spots where he can shoot it a little bit more, be around the net a little bit more, and have the ability to make plays,\u201d Watson said. \u201cAnd I just think the pace of the game is picking up. So I\u2019m excited to see the pace of his own game pick up because that\u2019s what\u2019s going to happen in the second half.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo he\u2019s a mature player already. He\u2019s got all the tools to be a really good NHLer.
