The Carolina Hurricanes post the third-best record in the NHL and are tied for the best record at the Olympic Break. A huge part of that has been their goaltending, which has been led by Brandon Bussi, especially after losing Pyotr Kochetkov for the season to an injury. Bussi has stepped up. Due to the success Bussi has had this season, the Hurricanes are rewarding him with a contract extension. The deal is for three-years and is worth $5.7 million, a $1.9 million AAV. A great deal for both sides as Bussi has a home now, while the Hurricanes have a solid goalie for the next few seasons. <\/p>\n

Bussi in 27 games this season is 23-3-1 with a 2.16 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage, and two shutouts. He\u2019s continued to surprise many and break records, such as being the fastest goalie to ten wins ever<\/a>, and he won his 18th win in his 22nd game. That is the most wins for a goalie in league history in that span to begin a career. He certainly should be in the Vezina<\/a> conversation. Bussi can\u2019t win the Calder Memorial Trophy due to his age. The rule for the Calder Memorial Trophy states the player needs to be 26 or younger by September 15th. Bussi is 27, and he turned 27 on June 25th.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brandon Bussi<\/p>\n

Bussi was in the Bruins organization for the last four seasons, playing with\u00a0Providence<\/a>. Last season in 33 games, he went 15-14-3 with a 2.77 goals-against average, a .907 save percentage, and five shutouts; the five shutouts were tied for the third most in all of the AHL. In two Calder Cup Playoff games, he went 1-1. He posted a 2.42 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. In 111 games for Providence over the four seasons, he went 63-31-12. Bussi had a 2.62 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage, and eight shutouts. In ten Calder Cup Playoff games, he went 3-7-0 with a 2.25 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage, and a shutout.<\/p>\n
