The St. Louis Blues<\/a> continue to ask a high price for their multiple trade candidates, but that hasn’t stopped teams from snooping around. According to James Murphy in rg.org, the Boston Bruins are ‘actively targeting’ defenseman Justin Faulk.<\/p>\n

Boston has remained aggressive in its search for a right-shot top-four defenseman after missing out on Rasmus Andersson, with GM Don Sweeney reportedly holding ongoing discussions with St. Louis about Faulk for the past month.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have been talking for a while now,\u201d an NHL source close to the situation told Murphy<\/a> of the Blues and Bruins. \u201cSweeney and Armstrong have been together a lot, and I\u2019m told they\u2019ve talked a lot on Faulk. He fits that void Sweeney\u2019s been trying to fill and you saw that with the way he went after Andersson before he was traded to Vegas.\u201d Those two executives, keep in mind, are spending quite a bit of time together this month as part of Team Canada’s management group at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

A previous report suggests that the Blues are looking for a return similar to what the Calgary Flames received from the Vegas Golden Knights for the aforementioned Andersson. That was a massive package that included a top prospect in\u00a0Abram Wiebe,\u00a0an established veteran\u00a0defenseman,\u00a0Zach Whitecloud, along with a first-round pick (2027), and a conditional 2028 second-round pick.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Is Faulk on the same level as Andersson? The latter is four years younger and still in his prime, Faulk is not.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, with top-four defensemen hard to come by at this trade deadline, Faulk has plenty of teams interested. And the fact that several teams are in the competition, including\u00a0the Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, and Utah Mammoth, along with the Bruins, means the Blues just might get something close to their high asking price.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bruins could make very competitive offer to Blues for Justin Faulk<\/p>\n

And if they choose to bend to the Blues’ demands, the Bruins do have the assets that could satisfy them. To start with, they have their\u00a0own 2026 first-round pick, plus a top-5-protected first-round pick from the Toronto Maple Leafs. They also have a conditional 2027 first-round pick from Florida, which could transfer to 2028 depending on other conditions.<\/p>\n

Add in a good prospect, and the Bruins could make a very competitive offer with one of those first-rounders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0The 33-year-old Faulk has 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points in 57 games this season for the Blues, and has one more season left on a seven-year, $6.5M AAV deal.<\/p>\n
