Now, he\u2019s living it.<\/p>\n<p>The Vegas Golden Knights defenseman is representing Sweden in his first Olympic Games, a milestone shaped by childhood memories, national pride and a family legacy that runs deep.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will mean a lot, I think, especially growing up in Sweden,\u201d Andersson said.<\/p>\n<p>Raised during one of Sweden\u2019s most successful international stretches, Andersson remembers watching the 2006 Olympic team win gold \u2014 a moment that helped spark his own ambition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, the \u201906 Olympics when Sweden won, you were like one day I want to play for Team Sweden at the Olympics,\u201d Andersson said. \u201cAnd now I have the opportunity to do so and it\u2019s going to be very special, probably emotional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Olympic connection runs deeper than fandom. Andersson\u2019s father played for Sweden at the 1992 Winter Games, something the younger Andersson said wasn\u2019t heavily discussed while he was growing up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe kind of didn\u2019t really mention it a whole lot when we grew up and then he\u2019s like, \u2018Well, you know, I played Olympics,\u2019\u201d Andersson said. \u201cWe were like, what did you actually?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His father\u2019s understated approach stuck with him. Rather than highlight his own accomplishments, he emphasized perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe keeps telling you just enjoy the moment,\u201d Andersson said. \u201cIt\u2019s the coolest thing you\u2019ll probably experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now 29 and a father of two, Andersson said parenthood has reshaped how he handles the pressures of professional hockey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaying a bad game or something like that, it doesn\u2019t really affect you the same way as it used to because when they wake up they\u2019re always happy to see you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>His son is already developing his own love for the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy son\u2019s starting to love hockey too,\u201d Andersson said. \u201cHe watches every game I play and he\u2019s just so excited for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Sweden fell to the United States on the Olympic stage, Andersson\u2019s debut still carried personal weight \u2014 a childhood dream realized and a family legacy continuing in front of a global audience.<\/p>\n<p>For Andersson, the moment is bigger than a matchup.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s about home, perspective and wearing the sweater he once watched from afar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LAS VEGAS (KTNV) \u2014 Rasmus Andersson grew up in Sweden dreaming about the Olympics.
