MILAN \u2014 Sidney Crosby isn\u2019t being ruled out of the Olympics by Team Canada but his status moving forward remains unclear.<\/p>\n
\u201cSid is by no means ruled out of the tournament,\u2019\u2019 Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper said Thursday. \u201cWe\u2019ve got the best of the best looking at him. \u2026 We\u2019re taking this day by day. And we\u2019re not going to put anyone in harm\u2019s way. But if he can play, he\u2019s definitely going to. We\u2019ll know more again in 24 hours.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Crosby underwent testing to see what the severity of his lower body injury was. A league source told The Athletic that Crosby is doing all that he can in an attempt to play again in this tournament but it\u2019s not clear if that will be possible.<\/p>\n
Crosby was hurt midway through the second period during Canada\u2019s 4-3 overtime win in the quarterfinals Wednesdsay when veteran Czech defenseman Radko Gudas came to finish his check on him between the benches. Crosby tried to duck the hit; his legs split and Gudas seemed to topple over him. His right leg bent awkwardly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was just trying to hold the red line,\u2019\u2019 Gudas said postgame. \u201cJust trying to play hard, everybody is playing physical. \u2026 I\u2019m not sure (what happened). That team is so fast, so quick, you worry about the next shift, the next play. Hopefully he\u2019s OK. You never want to see a guy get hurt, especially in these tournaments.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Crosby, 38, has two goals and four assists in now parts of four games these Olympics. The Pittsburgh Penguins star has seven goals and nine assists in 17 career games in the Olympics, leading Team Canada to gold at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics.<\/p>\n
\u201cGuys just have to step up, but he\u2019s still around us and stuff. We don\u2019t even know if he\u2019s playing or not,\u2019\u2019 Drew Doughty said after practice Thursday. \u201cBut he\u2019s still around doing his leadership thing. But we got guys that can step up and fill the leadership void, obviously it\u2019s impossible the player void. But we\u2019ll do our best.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

As per international rules, Team Canada would have to put the captain\u2019s \u2018C\u2019 on another player Friday if Crosby can\u2019t go.
