{"id":463922,"date":"2026-02-19T22:46:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T22:46:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/463922\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T22:46:12","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T22:46:12","slug":"students-celebrate-olympic-gold-for-4-northeastern-grads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/463922\/","title":{"rendered":"Students Celebrate Olympic Gold for 4 Northeastern Grads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Husky hockey fans gathered at the Curry Student Center to watch four former Northeastern women\u2019s hockey players and the rest of Team USA win gold medals at the Olympic Games Thursday afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been watching Northeastern hockey since I came in as a freshman,\u201d said fourth-year student Breanna Adel during a campus watch party where she sat with a group of friends at a table decorated with red and black pompons to cheer on Northeastern graduates Aerin Frankel, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Hayley Scamurra and Gwyneth Philips.<\/p>\n<p>Team USA defeated Canada, 2-1, in overtime, with Frankel stopping all but one shot.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fourth-year student Sheena Ball said it was thrilling to see the women who formerly played for Northeastern shine on a global stage at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. \u201cIt\u2019s been a great spotlight\u201d for women\u2019s sports, she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great way to celebrate how big an achievement it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"932\" data-id=\"291012\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/021926_AS_watch_party_012.jpg\" alt=\"Two students hold red hand shaped clappers while sitting at a table in Curry Student Center. \" class=\"wp-image-291012\"  \/>02\/19\/26 \u2013 BOSTON, MA. \u2013 Northeastern students watch the Olympic USA women\u2019s hockey team take on Canada in the gold medal game in the Curry Student Center on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026. Photos by Alyssa Stone\/Northeastern University<\/p>\n<p>Third-year student Andrew Longo was at the watch party in his role as news director of NU TV. He said it was nice to see how engaged and sociable the student crowd was at Curry, where Longo is used to seeing students \u201clooking down\u201d and studying.<\/p>\n<p>Several students brought laptops and said they had to leave before the game was over to attend class, although Adel said she planned to stay until the game\u2019s end since Thursday was a homework day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First-year student Sankeerth Adisha took a photo of one of the big screens and said he was originally drawn to the watch party when he saw pizza being handed out. He said he stayed to soak up the campus spirit and \u201cbeing together, having fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Husky loyalty was rewarded when the U.S. women\u2019s team beat the Canadian team in overtime to take the gold.
